Spring Tips for Spartanburg Pest Control

Pest control in South Carolina is a huge concern during the spring time. Once the weather begins to warm up and the spring rains come, houses are surrounded by water. If the water can drain properly, this may not be such a big issue, but when you combine water with wood and areas that can hold standing water, you suddenly find a need for Spartanburg pest control.

Water Around the House
All living things need water. Some insects even breed in water or like to lay their eggs close to the water. If you have standing water around your house, you are basically inviting pests to have a field day in and around your home. Once winter ends and you can see all of the areas that need to be addressed around your home, it's crucial that you do something about them. Otherwise you can end up with millipedes, centipedes, termites, and other guests that you don't really want in your home.

Wood and Leaves
Wood and leaves are inviting places for pests because they can hide in them and enjoy the nutrients that the wood and leaves provide. Since wood and leaves also make a great way to create an area that holds moisture, pests are especially pleased with things like mulch and leaves that have been sitting all winter.

Areas to Address
Any area around your home that has wood, leaves, and/or water, needs to be addressed. Below are some of the most important areas.

  • Landscaping around the house. If you have landscaping around your home, skip the mulch and use rocks instead. Mulch is the perfect breeding ground for pests, while rocks are not.

  • Leaves near the foundation. The foundation of the home catches a lot of leaves and debris. Rake these away from your foundation before pests go from eating leaves to munching on the structure of your home.

  • Gutters and valleys. Your gutters and any valleys you have on your roof tend to be great places for small branches and leaves to become trapped. This attracts pests as well as water because it stops the water from flowing down and out as it should.

Start at the top of your home and work your way down. As you clean the roof and gutters, the debris will most likely fall close to your house. Once the roof and gutters are cleaned, clean the area around your foundation.

We had extensive water intrusion that our inspector did not see. Thompson Brothers had to engage in grading, extensive digging, reinstallation of French drains, and install a new drainage field. The work was excellent. All personnel is polite, on time, and very professional. Highly recommend.
